Number of Positions: Eight (8) to Ten (10)

Essential Duties: These are seasonal official/referee/instructor positions in the Recreation Division of the Provo City Parks and Recreation Department. The individuals appointed to these positions will be responsible for instructing and officiating youth (Grades 1 and 2) in the Junior Jazz basketball program. The structure of the program involves a combination of teaching basketball skills to the participants and officiating scrimmages. Additionally, employees may be required to do some court maintenance and perform other related work as required.

Minimum Requirements: Must commit to work February-May, 2018 and have experience and/or knowledge of rules associated with youth basketball and the ability to teach to children. Candidates must be proactive, energetic, and reliable and have a solid understanding of basketball rules. Required to run a rotating clinic, officiate games and may be asked to run a practice on occasions. Individuals must be able to work well under pressure and with others.

Selection Factors: Intermediate knowledge of basketball, conflict resolution, and ability to work well and engage with children, adults, coaches, and spectators. Please indicate your area/level of sports expertise in the certifications section on your application.

Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM; Saturday mornings from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Duration of Position: February 21 – May 5, 2018. Training will be on February 21, 2018.

Wage: $9.00 per hour. Payment will be made by direct deposit.

Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires physical strength and agility to perform the work, including standing and moving around on feet for extended periods of time and the ability to lift heavy equipment.

Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.
