Essential Duties: This is a clerical position in the Parks & Grounds operational area of the Parks and Recreation Department of Provo City Corporation. Duties include: data entry; file maintenance; processing reports, forms and other documents; operating various office machines; receiving and routing phone calls; greeting the public and others who have contact with Parks & Grounds staff; scheduling appointments; and assisting other clerical and Parks staff members as needed. Duties specific to the Parks & Grounds Office include: keeping Parks reservations up-to-date; responding to citizen inquiries; processing payments; maintaining calendars and lists; meeting preparation; maintaining office and uniform inventories; and updating operational statistics and social media accounts. Employee will also be required to assist office staff as needed and perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or G.E.D. with some course work in office procedures; or six months experience in clerical/secretarial work, including experience with word processing and spreadsheets, including Microsoft Office
Selection Factors: A working knowledge of Microsoft Office, basic English composition, spelling and grammar; an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; assist the public in a pleasant courteous and calm manner; and interpret and properly carry out general instructions.
Wage: $10.00 per hour. Payment will be made by direct deposit.
Hours: Each position will work approximately 15 - 20 hours per week in 4 – 5 hours shifts during the hours of 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday thru Thursday. Schedule is subject to change depending on department need. Additional hours may be required for heavy traffic times and office coverage needs.
Screening: Based on meeting the minimum requirements and job-related experience, skills, knowledge, and education. Selection may be based largely upon an oral interview. Criminal background checks are conducted on all City positions. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal.
Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires remaining seated at a computer and/or desk for periods of time, standing at a counter as required, and working with the public in sometimes stressful situations.
