PROVO CITY ELECTIONS 2009
The City of Provo will hold a non-partisan municipal general election on November 3, 2009, to elect a mayor and three (3) council members to serve four-year terms of office. Council members will be elected from Council Districts 2 and 5 and City Wide I. If more than two candidates file for an office, a municipal primary election will be held on September 15, 2009.
To qualify for candidacy a person must meet the following requirements as outlined in state and local law:
- 1. A United States citizen.
- 2. Be at least 18 years old.
- 3. A resident of the municipality, or a recently annexed area, for a period of 365 consecutive days immediately preceding the date of election.
- 4 . A resident of Council Districts 2 or 5, if filing for one of those districts.
- 5. A registered voter of Provo City.
(Utah Constitution, Article IV, Section 6; Utah Code 20A-9-203; and Provo City Ordinance, Chapter 2).
Council members shall have no other compensated employment with the municipality. A candidate shall file a Declaration of Candidacy in person with the City Recorder during office hours between 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, and 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009. PLEASE NOTE: Provo City regular office hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and closed on Friday, including July 3 and July 10. (City offices will also be closed on July 2.)
Any resident of a municipality may nominate a candidate for a municipal office by filing a Nominating Petition with the City Recorder in the time frame identified above. Please contact the City Recorder for instructions.
A valid write-in candidate shall file a Declaration of Candidacy with the City Recorder not later than 14 days before the November election.
Filing documents are available at the Office of the City Recorder, 351 West Center, Provo, Utah.
