Personal & Family Preparedness
Provo City recognizes that the best preparation steps residents can take are those that help them be more self-reliant in an emergency. We recommend that each family and individual in Provo take the following steps to be ready for anything.
Prepare a family disaster plan. In this process, each family or group of individuals living together develops a plan to respond to any emergency. The City has developed a Family Preparedness Handbook that includes instructions and forms for completing a family response plan.
Secure emergency supplies. While the City responds promptly in any emergency, families and people living in Provo should be prepared to meet their own needs for three days while the City is responding. We recommend that every dwelling unit in the City have supplies on hand in their own home to meet their needs, and also that a “mobile” 72-hour kit be available that could be taken along in case of an evacuation. The Family Preparedness Handbook has information on 72 hour kits, or you can find other resources to help you determine what you need for the first 72 hours after an emergency strikes.
Have a family first aid kit. Being prepared for immediate medical or first aid needs is an important part of your efforts. Find information on buying first aid kits here in Provo or on building one of your own .
