Lynetta Maxine Bennett Wolsey Obituary
1940 - 2014
Lynetta Maxine Bennett Wolsey, Lynn to her friends and family, was born September 16, 1940 to Harrison DeVere Bennett and Evelyn Ruth O'Connell Bennett in Erie, Pennsylvania. She passed away surrounded by family on September 21, 2014 in Provo. She and her family joined the LDS church in 1952. After graduating from high school, she attended Brigham Young University where she met Thomas Mark Wolsey, whom she married April 28, 1961 in the Manti, Utah LDS Temple. Together, they raised a family, built a successful accounting practice, and lived a life of service to the church, friends, and neighbors. As an office manager, her organizing and typing skills were unprecedented.
Throughout her life, Lynn loved music and she shared her talent with family around the piano, with students, as choir leader, and as organist at church. She devoted a large portion of her life to the service of others: leading efforts to provide Christmas meals and gifts for families that could not afford it; brightening the lives of neighbors through genuine, random, and often anonymous acts of kindness; and finding ways to highlight the talents of others. She was often called to serve the youth of the area as a Boy Scout leader, Young Women's advisor and President of the organization. Often, the family room at her home was the natural community gathering point for quilting bees, ward parties, and youth fireside events. Everyone was welcome in her home. A particular love of hers was genealogy. She continued her service to others through genealogy by serving as extraction coordinator for the Cherry Hill Stake.
Lynn is survived by her husband, Thomas Mark Wolsey (Orem) and four children: Thomas DeVere Wolsey (Temecula, CA), Jay Brian (Debi) Wolsey (Alpine, UT), Kristine Michelle Wolsey (Richard) Peterson (South Jordan, UT), and Melissa Lynn Wolsey (Spanish Fork, UT). Eight grandchildren, and two husbands of those grandchildren, will miss her more than words can convey: Megan Wolsey (Devin) Burr, Andrew Wolsey, Lisa Peterson, Stephanie Wolsey (Andrew) Backenstoss, Robert Wolsey, Sydney Peterson, Elizabeth Wolsey, and Allison Wolsey. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Seth James (SJ) Burr, Molly Burr, and Brynna Backenstoss. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Cherry Hills 9th Ward Chapel, 135 East 2000 South, Orem, Utah. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Wednesday, September 24, from 6-8:00 p.m. and at the church Thursday from 11-11:45 a.m. prior to services.
