Budget - Fiscal Year 2024-2025

The City budget is a fundamental aspect of effective governance and responsible financial management. It serves as a blueprint for allocating resources that enhance the quality of life and support the growth and development of our community.

The budget process begins each year with the annual Council Priorities retreat where Councilors meet to review accomplishments from the past fiscal year and set goals for the new one. The City Administration then start meeting in early January to begin creating the budget. From January to April, each individual department presents to the Council what their anticipated requests will be for the upcoming budget.

Annually, the City Council considers the Mayor's proposed budget. Between then and final adoption, the City Council meets with staff, seeking to strike a balance between essential services, infrastructure investments, public safety, social programs, and other critical areas. A series of public hearings are then held to give the public the opportunity to weigh in prior to final adoption of the budget.

The City Council strives to make informed decisions about how taxpayer dollars are spent to meet the needs of the City. We value your engagement and encourage you to participate in the budget process by attending public meetings and contacting your council representative or emailing the entire Council at council@provo.org. Together we can shape a budget that reflects the aspirations and priorities of Provo.
