Volunteer Opportunities
Some of Provo City's greatest assets are its volunteer-minded citizens and its geographic location. The majestic Wasatch Mountain range on the east and the Provo River and trails meandering throughout the city provides for a variety of opportunities for service projects for citizens of any age or ability.
Service opportunities are available for any size of group including:
- business and corporate groups
- religious organizations
- college clubs
- family activities (children, parents, grandparents, etc.)
- neighborhood projects
- Eagle Scout projects
- or individuals

Even though trails should mostly be maintained by the same people who use them, this is usually not the case. In order to keep trails open, clean, and safe (and to better allocate government resources), Provo City Parks & Recreation division has developed an Adopt-A-Trail program.
Through this volunteer-run program, individuals and groups collaborate with Provo Parks to assume responsibility for the basic maintenance and cleanup of a chosen trail section. This way, those who benefit from the trail can also share in their stewardship—and ensure they remain safe, minimally obstructive to the environment, and recreationally satisfying to all who use them.
In the Adopt-A-Trail program, volunteers will:
- Provide regular maintenance/care on a trail section of their choice, through the Adopt-A-Trail season (March 1–November 30). This includes both “basic” care on their own, and “advanced” care with the help of Provo Parks.
- Track and report all hours/tasks worked on their section to Provo Parks. Maintenance is encouraged on a monthly and every-two-weeks basis. On average, “basic” tasks take 4–10 manhours per month.
- Report any issues/concerns they see to Provo Parks. Trail adopters are asked to submit pins, coordinates, and/or photographs with their report to make follow up easier.
Flexible options are available. Approximately 30 trail sections are open for adoption, including paved, unpaved, rural, and urban sections. All trails may be adopted by either groups or single individuals. Applicants are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the Adopt-A-Trail season. Adopt your trail today!

Eagle Scout Projects
Provo City has benefited from many Eagle Scout projects in the parks and on the trails and hopes to continue with more projects in the future. If you're interested in working with Provo City for your Eagle Scout Project, please note we no longer provide lists of currently-available projects. Instead, please plan to:
- Visit your local park, trail, neighborhood, and/or cemetery.
- Observe and document potential project opportunities.
- Contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Thalia Pope, via email at tpope@provo.org or (801) 852-7607 with suggested projects.
For faster approval, please provide multiple project options. Approval may be dependent upon previously-scheduled City projects, available materials, and long-term City planning.
Thank you for considering Provo City as the beneficiary for your Eagle Scout project. We look forward to working with you!

There is a great need for volunteers year-round. No group is too large or too small. There are no qualifications - everyone can volunteer!
Most service projects involve; weeding, raking, trash pickup, preparing for and laying sod, planting trees, creating and maintaining tree aprons, painting and trail building.
We need volunteers for the Provo Cemetery, our parks, and our trail systems. There's always something that can be done to beautify our areas.
Please call (385) 240-4669 or email Thalia Pope, Volunteer Coordinator, for more information.
