FAQs

Where can I park?

There are many public parking areas within a 10 minute walk of the Covey Center, including on the south side of the Covey Center and on Center Street. You can find a map here.  Plan to arrive early to find your spot.  Please be cognizant of parking laws and posted signs.  Parking in the roundabout and driveway south of the Covey Center is prohibited.  The Covey Center is not responsible for parking tickets received while attending a performance.

Is there a cost to exhibit in the art galleries or to attend any of the exhibits?

When should I arrive?

The doors will open for seating 30 minutes prior to the stated show time.  On occasion, doors may open late if the client is not ready for audience to be seated.

I tried to purchase tickets online and my card was declined. Why has this happened?

The most common issue for a card declining is because the billing address or zip-code that was entered does not match the card that is being used. We suggest checking to make sure the billing information is correct or talking with your bank to ensure that the billing address you entered lines up with the information they have. The billing address may not always be the same as the address of current residence.

I am no longer able to attend a performance that I purchased for. What should I do?

The Covey Center for the Arts has a no refund policy.  You can give them away or exchange them for another showing of the same performance for three dollars per ticket.

Can I see an example of the main hall so I can pick my seats?

Yes, you can find more information on the Seating page.

Do I need to print my tickets?

You are welcome to print your tickets, but you can also show the ushers your tickets on your screen.

Do you have booster seats available?

The Covey Center has a limited amount of booster seats available to borrow.  You are welcome to bring your own.  Car booster seats work great.

My child is [insert age here]. Do they need a ticket?

Child attendance guidelines vary based on each performance and presenter.  Please review performance details for specific information.  Babes in arms are always discouraged.

Do adult classes perform?

Yes! Unless otherwise specified, adult classes are invited to be a part of our dance shows. If an adult dancer chooses not to perform, they just need to let their dance teacher know at their first class session.

Do parents/guardians need to stay with their dancers?

For Parent/Child Movement, Preschool and All Abilities dance classes, a guardian is required to be in the dance room with their students for the duration of the class. For Kinder and Kids dance classes, guardians should be in the building to help with bathroom breaks, upset students, and unruly behavior. Dance teachers are not responsible for and will not help students in the bathroom and will not be able to stop class to help a student if they are crying or otherwise unruly. Guardians are responsible for providing a water bottle for students or walking their dancers to and from the drinking fountain. If a student is being unsafe to themselves or others, it is the parent's responsibility to intervene.

How do I know which class to sign up for?

For students ages 18 months-7 years old, classes are all by age. For our pre-teen, teen, and adult dance classes, students are welcome to register for beginning or intermediate classes, depending on the rigor of class they are interested in taking.  Students are welcome to take a trial class of any class they may be interested in registering for, the first month of the semester. If you have any questions on what dance class would be the best fit for you or your student, please feel free to contact us for more information.

What are the differences between Ballet, Combo, and Creative dance classes?

Ballet classes focus primarily on ballet movement, use ballet terminology, and ballet shoes are required. Combo classes include ballet, jazz, and lyrical dance training, and may also touch on hip hop, musical theater, or creative movement, as the teacher sees fit. Combo classes are a general overview of multiple styles of dance. Shoes are not required for combo classes. Creative dance classes teach students general body awareness through dance exercises, encourage creativity through movement prompts, and often include lots of games that encourage mindful movement. Ballet, Combo, and Creative dance classes are taught using at-level, age-appropriate movement and language. These classes are often very similar when catering to the abilities of young dancers and become more defined once dancers have reached pre-teen level classes.

What should I wear to dance class?

Dancers can wear any comfortable, not restrictive clothing. For students under 18 years old, it is required that dance clothes cover the stomach. Ballet dancers are responsible for providing their own ballet shoes (pink for girls and women, black or white for men and boys), and they should be acquired within one month of classes starting. Hip Hop dancers should wear comfortable and well-fitting non-marking sneakers or tennis shoes. Please, do not wear socks only in the dance room as that can be slippery. It is strongly recommended for girls to wear ballet tights and a leotard and boys to wear a fitted shirt to ballet class. If you have any questions, please ask your dance teacher.

Where are dance classes held?

All dance classes are taught at the Covey Center for the Arts, in the Brinton Dance Studios in the southwest corner of the second floor.
