PHOTOGRAPHY BY RICK NYE
Smoot Secured Gallery
October 31 to December 30, 2024
RICK NYE DISCOVERED the power light has on film when, at the age of 13, he attempted to process a roll of Kodak 620 film in a dimly-lit room in his home! Of course the resulting film was totally black upon developing. Not being discouraged, he continued to
shoot photos with his Brownie camera and the local drug store processed his images.
Despite the rough start, photography became Rick’s lifework—his passion. Rick is a highly-acclaimed professional photographer, capturing nature’s
exquisite beauty as well as the vivid emotions found in wedding days and family portraits.
After his tour with the U.S. Army in Southeast Asia, Rick returned to Brigham Young University where he received his Master’s Degree in Visual Arts. He taught basic, portrait, and commercial photography at BYU as well as managing the photo lab and photo studio facilities. He is now the owner/photographer at Rick Nye Photography.
YOU CAN'T IFRE ME - I QUIT! - Art by J. Wayne Anderson
Eccles Art Gallery
October 31 to December 9, 2024
Sometimes, when I have trouble falling asleep, I just lay in the dark with my little
peepers closed. I clear my mind, relax and slowly count the number of jobs that
I’ve been fired from. *zzzz… If it were not for the fact that I am, first and
foremost, a painter I would probably be the deadbeat uncle living in your backyard
shed.
Painting brings me joy. I'm too old to try and shame society into changing it's evil ways and experienced enough to know that one of my paintings couldn’t possibly accomplish that task.
Painting, I believe, is entertainment. An incongruent gathering of elements promoting a lively and rhythmic visual experience, a harmonious juxtaposition.

by Lee R. Cowan
Center Street Exhibit
As you come into the Covey Center for the Arts from Center Street, look to your left at the Center Street Exhibit space and see the amazing art of Lee R. Cowen. We are so thrilled to have on long exhibit Lee's work.
Artist and educator, Lee R. Cowan has been teaching at Utah Valley University since 1999 and as adjunct for Brigham Young University and Snow College. In 2002, he opened Utah based, Cowan Gallery, which gave a voice to the conceptual and contemporary artist.
As an artist, he has exhibited nationally and has been the recipient of Best of Show awards, as well as placed and Honorable mentions for his paintings, prints and installations. Lee has guest lectured for UVU, BYU, FATE and has participated on a number of Artist Panels. Lee served as Art Director for the documentary film ”Declaration, The Discovery of the William Stone Engraving”. He has served as a Juror for BYU several times and has curated and co-curated shows for the past 20 years.
Lee received his MFA from Brigham Young University for his thesis on 24 Hour Portraiture of the human experience through the interpretation of color. He received his BFA from Art Center College of Design challenging the theorems of Dr. Max Luscher and the use of color preference for psychological profiling.
Lee has an interest in the divisions of space by the means of proven structures found in plutonic, geometry, and other math theorems. The incorporation of those structures with visual intangibles creates the dialog of which he likes to explore with-in his art.
