Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully at his home in Orem, Utah on Thursday, September 20, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
Allan Zabel was born August 11, 1942 in Fargo, ND to Donald and Naomi Zabel. As a child Allan loved playing hockey. Each year for Christmas, his parents gave him a new hockey stick and puck. After graduating high school from Fargo Central High, he attended Brigham Young University for a short time and then served an honorable mission for a period of 30 months in the Finish Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After his release, he again attended Brigham Young University where he received Political Science and Accounting degrees. He received his J.D. degree from the University of Utah Law School in 1968. While attending BYU, he met Nancy Johnson. The two were married on August 17, 1966 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They shared 52 glorious years together.
Allan had many passions in his life. He was involved in Scouting for 40 years, was an avid BYU fan, and he loved reading. He gave of his time and talents endlessly. Above all he cherished his family and spending time with them. He tried to never miss a grandchild’s event and loved traveling with his kids.
He gave selfless service to many people. He faithfully served in many church callings including Bishop and Temple Ordinance Worker. He never asked anyone to do anything he wouldn’t do himself. His integrity was an example for all to follow.
He is survived by his wife Nancy of Orem, daughters Shauna (Brian) Brinkerhoff of Valrico FL, Rynele (Dave) Cross of Rigby ID, sons Brett (Jenny) Zabel of Heber City, and Karl (Melissa) Zabel of Lithia FL.
