Hyrum K. Hunt
1975-2018
Our beloved son, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Hyrum K. Hunt, age 43, passed away on Oct. 18th in Echo Park, California. He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on Feb. 20th, 1975.
Hyrum is survived by his parents, Larry and Claudia Hunt, his two beautiful children, Henry and Jagger, his former wife Pegah (Sedighi) Hunt and his siblings Joseph (Sarah), Cumorah (Dan) McOmber, Liahona (Marcus) Patterson, Charity, Rachel (Spencer) Hunt-Steenblik and Samuel (Valerie). He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces and nephews who will miss him very much.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Don and Billie Hunt, and Richard and Zena Hill.
Hyrum spent most of his childhood in Klamath Falls, Oregon, attending Peterson Elem., Brixner Jr High, and Mazama High School. Exceptionally talented, Hyrum thrived in academics, art, music, piano voice, and theatre. Hyrum moved to Grants Pass, Oregon his junior year and graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1993.
An Eagle Scout, Hyrum was also active in student government and enjoyed participating in sports, especially basketball, track and cross country. He was a star player for the “China Hut” city league basketball team. Additionally, Hyrum was fond of his time spent living in Portugal from 1994 to 1996 while serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Hyrum graduated with honors from Brigham Young University in 1999 and received his Jurist Doctor degree from the University of Southern California’s Gould School of Law in 2002. He practiced as a successful attorney in the Los Angeles area for many years, including as a partner in the law firm Weiss & Hunt.
Pegah and Hyrum were married on May 26th, 2007. Together, they have two amazing children, Henry (9) and Jagger (8), whom Hyrum loved dearly. Melissa Sheldon was Hyrum’s treasured companion during his later years.
Hyrum spent much of his spare time creating music. He was a respected guitar player and songwriter. While he enjoyed singing and playing for friends and family, he loved being on stage and fronted several bands, including Metal Love in Utah, and Policy in California. Policy played several well known Hollywood venues over the course of their seven-year run. One of his most memorable shows was at the Whiskey-a-Go-Go. (You can hear his music via the YouTube channel, “Hyrum K. Hunt.”)
Most recently, Hyrum turned his creative focus to writing prose and poetry. (His published works, including “Hemlocke,”and “Loveless -25 poems,” can be found on Amazon.)
Hyrum will be remembered for his infectious personality, his wit and wisdom, and love for his nieces and nephews. He had a wry sense of humor, a ready opinion on every subject, and a deep love of all kinds of music. He was a self proclaimed Los Angeles Lakers fanatic. He enjoyed mentoring others. While recently working with an honors class of high school students, he implored them, “Please don’t hold grudges. It’s not worth your time or energy, and will merely serve to interfere from you loving who you should unconditionally love — that being your family.” Hyrum loved his family, and he will be greatly missed.
Hyrum’s funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Nov. 17th at the Parkway 8th Ward chapel, 2876 W. 1390 N. Provo, UT, 84601. Close friends and family are invited to a celebration of Hyrum’s life following the funeral. (No viewing.)
