David "Rod" Rodney Jorgensen

David "Rod" Rodney Jorgensen

1970-2018

Our creative and talented son Rod passed away at his home on September 7, 2018, due to complications from pneumonia. Rod was born the youngest of 3 children to David Ross and Lynda (McEwan) Jorgensen. He gained 3 more siblings after his father’s marriage to Nancy (Nelson) Jorgensen in 1974.

Rod attended schools in Provo and Pleasant Grove. He loved motorcycles and was practically a pro at age 12, winning many trophies at Widowmaker hill climb and other events. He worked as a Porsche restoration tech before joining his father as co-owner of Provo Diesel Service for the last 25 years.

Rod was one of the founders of the Wasatch Disc Golf Club and was dedicated to the growth and evolution of the sport in Utah County. He was a fixture at tournaments around the state and was regarded as one of the most consistent competitors in the Open Division. He was universally revered by his peers in the disc golf community.

He was a self-taught photographer and spent thousands of hours photographing wildlife. His portfolio, ranging from tiny insects to birds to elk, is the equal of any professional. Rod loved antique bicycles and learned how to rebuild them from nothing but an old frame.

Rod was a music lover and traveled to all the country music festivals in Colorado and Idaho with his friend Joe. He loved mingling with all the artists and has a healthy portfolio of photos signed by just about every bluegrass musician. He was an excellent drummer, and had just taken up the mandolin. No doubt, he would have been amazing. He also left us with several beautiful canvas paintings, and books of his sketches and artwork. He masterfully taught himself how to do just about anything he took an interest in. He was so talented and will be missed greatly, but left a great legacy of art for us to enjoy and remember him by.

Rod is preceded in death by his mother, Linda McEwan; and survived by his father, David Jorgensen (Nancy); and his siblings, Steve Jorgensen (Kim), Jackie Jorgensen, Michael Jorgensen, Jessica Bolda (David), Kacey Taylor (Christian); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Rod preferred no funeral, so a celebration of his life and talent will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Jolley Ranch in Hobble Creek. Wasatch Disc Golf Club will host a fundraising round following the memorial service to raise funds for a bench in Jolley Ranch in Rod’s name.

Conditions permitting. Due to fires check https://facebook.com/events/751542888515257 for updates.
