Ethel Hogge Bullock

1921 - 2019

Ethel Hogge Bullock, age 97, peacefully passed on to a joyous reunion with her beloved Robert and family on January 12, 2019 in Provo, Utah. The daughter of Charles Alexander Hogge and Lyda Elizabeth Fuller Hogge was born in Eden, Utah July 19, 1921. She graduated from Weber State College and Brigham Young University where she studied secondary education. Ethel married her eternal sweetheart Judge J. Robert Bullock on August 29, 1949. They were later sealed in the Utah Mt. Timpanogos LDS Temple.

Ethel was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, actively serving in many callings, including pianist and as a joyful member of the ward choir. She loved music of all kinds and enjoyed playing the piano and organ. Being a mother of four boys, she was an active Cub Scout Den Leader who taught her Cub Scouts how to learn and have fun at the same time. She was a member of several women’s civic organizations where she was active in serving her neighborhood and community. She loved to travel and even became an accomplished snow skier in order to keep up with her four sons on the slopes in spite of her struggles with her fear of heights. She loved to read and was always interested in keeping on top of current events. She was one of BYU’s biggest sports fans, always cheering them on and having encouraging words for the Cougars. Her cooking skills were only exceeded by her love for those whom she served. But most of all, she was all about family and loved to know each one of her children and grandchildren and their interests and their comings and goings. She loved making new friends and making a point to reach out to others with a smile and a cheerful greeting. Everyone considered Ethel their friend. And we will all miss her sweet birthday phone calls each year!

Ethel is survived by her children, James Robert (Debbie) Bullock, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV; David A. (Peggy) Bullock of Houston, TX; Steven Hogge (Mary) Bullock of Forest Hill, MD; Karen Ward Bullock (wife of deceased son Scott) of Orem, UT; 17 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Elmer Morris (Betty) Hogge. She was preceded in death by her husband Judge J. Robert Bullock, her son Charles Scott Bullock, her grandson Brandon Todd Bullock, and two brothers and three sisters.

Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed by her love and friendship. Ethel was the greatest example of one who always did her best to enjoy life and find the positive and good in all that life offered her. She met her life challenges with optimism and courage and embraced her advancing years with that same fortitude, patience, and grace. We love you and we will miss you, Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma!

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the Oak Hills 4th Ward, 925 North Temple Drive, Provo, UT. There will be a visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Provo Cemetery. To express condolences visit www.NelsonMortuary.com
