Kristine Castro

1952 - 2019

Norma Kristine Castro was born on September 21, 1952 in Murray, UT. After a battle with pancreatic cancer, she passed away surrounded by her family on August 22, 2019. Kristine grew up in Midvale, UT and Western Samoa. She married her first husband, Dennis Dean, in the Salt Lake Temple on June 20, 1974. After Dennis died in 1984, Kristine attended Idaho State University graduating in 1987. She later met and married, Roger Castro, on June 10, 1989 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Kristine worked at the Marshall Public Library for 27 years.

Kristine lived a life of quiet service. As a librarian, she met people from all walks of life. Patrons became extended family as she leant a listening ear, became a surrogate mother, and visited patrons in jail. She always kept a hand crocheted hat and a pack of essentials nearby to share with those in need. These were delivered with conversation and love.

Frequently, Kristine said she wanted to learn as much as possible. This was evidenced by her love of reading and eternal curiosity. She enjoyed reading all genres at one time or another. Her curiosity led her to become a masterful painter and crocheter. Along with this learning, came a desire to teach. Those who sat in on her lessons at church often commented on how much they learned from her.

Kristine demonstrated a brave and courageous desire to do what was right. Her first husband, Dennis, was confined to a wheelchair and needed daily assistance. Kristine wasn't daunted by this; she simply stepped forward and loved him, knowing that all the service she rendered would make their love stronger. Her second husband, Roger, didn't speak English when they married, but she knew the Lord was on their side and that the difficulties would make their love stronger. When diagnosed with cancer, she didn't complain; she just moved forward.

Kristine is survived by her husband, Roger, her son Christopher, her daughter Heather, and three grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers & sisters: Kelvin Sharp, Celine Zarogoza, Julene Back, Wayne Sharp, and Eric Sharp. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dennis Dean, and her parents Norma & Ralph Sharp.
