Sheryl Earl Garrick
1939 - 2019
Sheryl Earl “S.E.” Garrick passed away in his sleep on August 30, 2019 in Orem, Utah. He was 79 years old.
He was born on October 8, 1939 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah to David and Louise Garrick. S.E., along with his older brother David and younger sister Connie, spent much of the 1940’s growing up in mining camps. It was a difficult childhood, but they did their best to approach it with a sense of adventure. Throughout grade school and middle school, S.E. played the clarinet and eventually studied music in school before moving to Montana to work in the newspaper industry.
In his 20’s he moved to Portland, Oregon, where he met and married Janice (Enger) Garrick. They had two children together: Steven and Mary Beth. S.E. was involved in the local boat racing scene, driving his cherished SK-44, and was able to visit every contiguous state in the country as a long-haul trucker, driving his 18-wheeler, The Western Star.
S.E. and Janice divorced in the early 1980’s, and S.E. moved back to Utah. Several years later, he met and married Diana (Bodnar) Garrick, and took her three children from a previous marriage into his home in Orem, Utah. He was married to Diana until she passed away in 2017.
S.E.’s passion in life was cars. He loved driving, racing, and working on cars in his shop. He was active in the Mopar community in Utah and frequently attended car shows in Las Vegas and Jackson Hole with his beloved car buddies. He also enjoyed going on fishing and boating trips with his son and daughter. Recently, S.E. passed as a fully-endowed and active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
S.E. was preceded in death by his grandson Thayer, his wife Diana and his son Steven. He is survived by his brother David, his sister Connie and his daughter Mary Beth.
