Nola Veloy Cox DeLange
1944 - 2019
Nola Veloy Cox DeLange was born February 7, 1944 to William Arthur and Lucy Beth Terry Cox in McKinnon, WY, and was the eldest of five children—Arthur (Karen), Jim (Mary), LuAnne (Mike) Liljenquist, and MaryBeth (John) Wald. Her family moved from McKinnon to Orem, UT where she graduated from Orem High School in 1962 and where she met and married the love of her life, Clark Denison DeLange, in the Salt Lake City Temple on November 24, 1965. She was a devoted and loving mother to seven children: Jenny (Miguel) Gutierrez, Chris (Dee), Jeff, Mike (Tiff), Mandy, Julie (Jake) Carpenter, and Ryan (Melissa). She was a proud grandmother to 27 grandchildren and to 13 great-grandchildren. Nola passed away peacefully at age 75 on November 14, in Provo, UT—reuniting with her father Bill, her son Chris, and grandson Lenny Gabe.
Nola was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and lived her life full of charity, acceptance, and forgiveness. She loved music, played the piano, and had a lovely singing voice. She also studied Music Education at BYU until nurturing her growing family became her primary focus. She watched and cheered for Cougar sports, she was a fan of the Utah Jazz, and she loved watching PBR rodeo events, gymnastics, and figure skating. She was an avid reader and read thousands of books. She loved holidays, especially Christmas—as evidenced by her collection of over 100 nativities and the full, under-stairs closet devoted exclusively to Christmas decorations. She also loved our Extended Family Home Evenings, family vacations at Flaming Gorge, and any other opportunity to gather together with family and friends to visit, eat and celebrate. She was an expert homemaker—making her home a clean, welcoming, and safe place to be—filled with good food and fun conversation—and she quilted blankets for each of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids in addition to many other sewing, craft, and creative projects she enjoyed.
Nola had an infectious optimism, she saw the good in everyone around her and she was quick to include and to love those she met. This has left a powerful legacy of love for her posterity to carry on. It has also meant that many outside her family will remember and consider her, with us, as a friend, a (second) Mom, and an inspiration.
