Megan Elizabeth Welton
1983 - 2020
Megan Elizabeth Welton died on January 13, 2020 from a rare and undiagnosed heart condition. Megan was born to Paul and Susan Welton on April 18, 1983 in Fresno, California. She was a precious baby with big blue eyes who delighted her family with her gentle nature and curious gaze. As she grew older, her curiosity turned to one of her first loves: reading. She read The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis as a precocious four-year-old, and she often slept with thick stacks of books under her pillow.
As Megan grew up, she held close to her sincere love for the people around her, as well as to her faith in Jesus Christ. She had a vibrant mind and a soft heart, and she felt very deeply the sorrows and sufferings of those around her. Her sensitivity allowed her to serve with faith and grace as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Louisville Kentucky mission from 2004-2005. After returning from her mission, she continued applying her love for people and words to her study of English at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she graduated in 2008. Following graduation, her path eventually led to a career at LDS Philanthropies, where she worked for the past nine years. She spent three of those years living and working in Laie, Hawaii. She treasured her time in Hawaii and developed a deep and abiding love for the people of Laie. She longed to return.
Following her time in Hawaii, Megan returned to Provo, Utah and continued her work with Philanthropies. She also took advantage of her return to the mainland to spend more time with her family, especially her parents, siblings, and her ten nieces and nephews. She was a universally adored daughter, aunt, sister, cousin, and friend.
Megan was quick to see the best qualities in everyone she knew. She was passionate about learning and serving others. She had a keen wit and a contagious laugh, and she delighted in celebrating life to its fullest. Her annual “birthday fortnight” celebrations, trips to Disneyland, time in the mountains, and outings with dear friends brought her great joy. She was a light to all she encountered. Her zest for laughter and fun perfectly complemented her tender heart, and those she left behind feel a profound sense of loss that will never fully heal.
Everyone who knew Megan loved her. She was truly wonderful, and we can’t wait to see her smile and feel her warm embrace when we meet her again.
Megan is survived by her loving parents, Paul and Susan (Tew) Welton; her siblings Naomi Boyer (Jarum), Rachel Bryson (Jeremy), and Christopher Welton (Cosette); her nieces and nephews: Jacob, Kaylee, Matthew, Joshua, and Isabelle Boyer; Clara, Jonathan, and Cole Bryson; and Oliver and Mabel Welton. She is also survived by her devoted cousin, Mallory Snyder; her grandpa, Milton Tew; her grandmother, Velda Welton; as well as many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her grandpa, Oliver Kay Welton; her grandma, Fern Tew; and her nephew, Samuel Bryson.
Funeral services will be held will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cedar Hollow Seventh Ward Chapel, 2178 North 1200 East, Lehi, Utah with a viewing from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.olpinmortuary.com
The Welton family is planning to endow a memorial scholarship in Megan's name at Brigham Young University. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to the Megan Elizabeth Welton Memorial Fund at any America First Credit Union.
